No, it is the art.
I, like you, am around many different art forms and artists each day. Even if you think you haven't seen an artist recently, you have. Just a few weeks ago I went into a transmission shop (because my new car is breaking.... dang it), the last place i'd expect to find an artist. But the old man working there impressed me so much. He sat and talked about his craft, the craft he was a master of. And the work he put into it, the years he has spent learning about it, and his love for it makes it an art form of the highest kind.
Every time I go to a Magic Club Meeting (The International Brotherhood Of Magicians) I sit in amazement, not at the "tricks" I see performed, but at the knowledge and love of the art. We are lucky enough to have the International President, Mr. Phil Willmarth, in our group. And this man amazes me to no end. You mention an effect and he tells you the complete history of it, where it was published, and I wouldn't be surprised if he knew how many times it had been performed.
There are two guys, Mr. Gorman and Mr. Way, that do everything in their power to advance and teach the art and never ask for recognition.
There is a guy named Steve Beam who is very well known as being one of the best cardmen in the world... All of these are men I get to learn from each and every month. And all of these are men I hope to one day be like. With strong passion, love, and brotherhood all because of one single art form... Magic.
So I love magic, not because of the tricks or the fact that I can make people scream. I love it for the amazing art form that it is and no matter if I quit magic tomorrow I would still have memories that would last a lifetime... Memories of the art form and artists that I look up to so very much
Thank you IBM and thank you Ring 199...
